1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 It’s 3 o’clock
Kick off time!

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Only – it’s three in the morning
And a New Year is dawning

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 And the first chorus
Of a fabulous birdsong
Heralds hope and glory
And prosperity ‘ere long

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Unfortunately, not every one made it
And so we reflect
And give respect
To, among others
From our band of bretheren :
Alan Ball
Derek Dougan
Ian Porterfield
Phil O’Donnell

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Always, untimely and tragic

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 And yet, the magic
Of our Beautiful Game
Sees the torch, passed on
And though some are gone
And rightly mourned
A new generation
Has now spawned

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 We have to look beyond
The boasting
The roasting
And the harvesting
To the real heroes, the truly greats
And the unsung
For every club, however far flung
Has it’s …
Stoic captains
Staunch clubmen
Loyal supporters
And credit where credit’s due
Faithful reporters

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 So yes, lock up your daughters
Metaphorically
But categorically …

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 Let’s encourage
Sport for all
And may the force
Be football

Notes

Happy New Year to one and all

And yes, I staggered home in the early hours
And yes, I did hear a beautiful birdsong, of the feathered kind
And as I zig-zagged along, my hopes and prayers were for family and friends
Yet never far away, was football on the mind
