And a New Year is dawning

Of a fabulous birdsong
Heralds hope and glory
And prosperity ‘ere long

And so we reflect
And give respect
To, among others

Of our Beautiful Game
Sees the torch, passed on
And though some are gone
And rightly mourned
A new generation
Has now spawned

The boasting
The roasting
And the harvesting
To the real heroes, the truly greats
And the unsung
For every club, however far flung

And yes, I staggered home in the early hours
And yes, I did hear a beautiful birdsong, of the feathered kind
And as I zig-zagged along, my hopes and prayers were for family and friends
Yet never far away, was football on the mind
