Hats, Scarves and a Hip Flask

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Snow on the ground
Snow on the terraces
Snow on the seats
Snow is everywhere.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Fans get wrapped up
Hats, gloves and scarves,
Sturdy boots instead of shoes
Hip flask full of some strong spirit.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Cold weather won’t stop us
Only cancellation can do that
Good news, the game is on
Off we trudge, cold but unbowed.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 As I walk to our ground
I pass several away fans
I nod to them, they nod back
A silent respect between supporters.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 They got up early that morning
To travel hundreds of miles
They’ve made it safely to the match
Cold winds, Ice, Snow, it can’t stop them.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 When the going get’s tough
The tough get going
These words sum up the hardy fans
Sitting in the cold to watch their teams.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 So do your worse you icy weather
Bring to us your cold winds and snow
Because it won’t stop the true fan
We’ll still turn up come what may !

Notes

I was inspired to write this, after attending our cup replay against Portsmouth the other night. The attendance was a poor one, as it was on the telly, people opted to stay at home to watch instead.
We lost the game, on a bitterly cold night, but I looked over at the Pompey fans, a few hundred of them, and I thought, respect to you, your club is going through a lot at the moment, but you’ve travelled up, and got behind your side. To me these are the supporters who are the backbone of our great sport, even though I was gutted at my club Cov City going out !
