Heart as big as Anfield

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 All stout hearted sons and daughters of Anfield
These songs we are singing the best yet to be
In praise of all redmen and tales of their victories
Calling us home from the land and the sea
Oh legends and heroes have we here a plenty
Of deeds that we witnessed we drink to each name
They were nurtured like babes on the milk of our history
When they gathered we cheered them and we’ll do so again

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 In the red shirt they battled the cause was our passion
Our blood given breath and our hearts took the pain
We would race down the old road and curse us the weather
But we’d stand in the Kop in the wind hail and rain
The tales of our lads told the glory of Anfield
In songs and in legends they tell to this day
Of Smithy and Jocky And Dalglish and Joey
Men who could walk when the rest walked away

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 They were born for the Liverbird and wore her with wisdom
The pride of our hearts and the pride of our town
Put fear in the souls of the teams that opposed them
For here THIS IS ANFIELD God’s chosen ground
We’d race to this ground wrapped in our scarves and our banners
A song on our lips and a prayer in each soul
And we gathered with others whose faith joined us together
And we’d wake up all heaven when the reds scored a goal

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 We would dance with the devil then pass him like rubbish
If he wanted our passion we’d throw him a bone
You can tell us we’re fools but we’re not for movin’
For the earth of dear Anfield Is our only true home
So the cheer will go up for the boys of our dreamin’
Shankly and Paisley led each of us all
When they send me to heaven I’ll say that my wish is
To be here in the Kop where I’ll be evermore.

Notes

“I was born by the banks of the Mersey
Facin the Irish Sea
It might not look like heaven to you
But its home sweet home to me”
