Highfield Road-The Good Old Days

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Kids on the terraces
wooden Rattles in hand
back in the days
when it was fine to stand.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The atmosphere electric
crowds packed in tight
a sea of Sky Blue
what an awesome sight.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The Jimmy Hill revolution
a breath of fresh air
he gave us the good times
so glad I was there.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 He put Coventry on the map
and in the top flight
back then we all thought
our future was bright.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 But our spiritual home went
our beloved Highfield Road
which us fans were so proud
to call our Football abode.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Fast forward to the present
and our club’s in despair
Sky Blue supporters feeling anxious
but do the men in suits give a care ?

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 But whatever the outcome
be it good news or not
nobody can ever take from me
the great memories I’ve got.

Notes

Love the pictures from Crispin on Football Poets on Facebook from the fifties and sixties showing kids being passed down to the front, and the women with the massive Rattles. (if you’re on Fbook do visit www.facebook.com/FootballPoets)

Clik the Mouse has asked why a new ground as we already have the Ricoh Arena.Well talks keep breaking down with all parties involved, with each other blaming this and that etc.In other words as the club is in £60 million debt and nobody wants to pay it off,the people who have the main say have decided on leaving the Ricoh.they want to ground share until a new stadium is built which will take three years they reckon.

Us fans hope a buyer will come in at the last minute but it’s not looking good
at the moment. The majority of fans won’t go anywhere if we go elsewhere,
as they say the ground may be outside Coventry !
It’s a terrible mess and gets worse day by day you get anxious picking up the local paper as stories change daily.
I hope this explains this mess as best as I can but it’s no wonder City fans are so angry !

It inspired this about Highfield Road our old ground.

It looks like we may be off to Walsall to play “home” games next season as we have been told that until the new ground is built we have to ground share.

City fans are going to boycott all this if it happens,in other words either we stay in Coventry or stuff it !

How we all wished we had stayed at Highfield Road but money and greed by one or two individuals has caused all this and will do at other clubs you can be sure. kevin

Editor’s note:
‘until new ground built’ !?!?!?!?!
I thought the Ricoh Arena was one of the newest grounds in the UK?!?!?!? Clik.
