1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 …Now four years have passed, the years have been tough,
So Boys earn your wages, or ain’t they enough?
I’m as proud 3 Lions; make it worth the wait,
As I join many millions as we await our fate.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Bankers & Dolers join the iron foundry grafters,
As pub floors disappear as they fill to the rafters.
And millions of us anticipate glory,
Will this be ‘our day’ or another Dunkirk story.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 I’m surrounded by giants; I stretch for a view,
Panic sets in as the whistle is due.
Finally an opening, it as clear as glass
And the 22 soldiers take their place on the grass.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 There’s a deafening silence as the whistle starts to scream,
Then a roar like thunder, all eyes to the Green.
A million vuvuzela’s fill the ground,
For the next 90 minutes this world don’t turn round.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Be better than I thought, be all that I dreamt,
It will take some doin’ but be wages well spent.
become part of history let us say “we were there”
let the last two matches become distant despair.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 South African trenches are where the battle will take place,
And between the two trenches, lays a field full of grace.
Pinpoint passes shot with control and skill
Defoe to Rooney who’s poised for the kill.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 The crowd all jump, but just wide the ball goes
your country clench fists as the atmosphere grows
A wall of gasped air falls like a dark cloud
Followed by a deflated moan from the crowd.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Agitated feet start to shuffle unsteady
As the crowd check their watches and the ref’ gets ready
James launches a long ball. Like a missile to Lampards feet
then Cole to Rooney… and a terrified goalie left to beat

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 The ref raises his whistle and it gets ready to screech
but in the last 15 seconds, Capello’s deadline was breeched.
2 second silence as we, comprehend our dream
Then jaws drop & baffled look as our world starts to scream

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Men kiss one and other – it’s allowed for one day
And for now our nations bookmakers all you can do is pray
The world is ours
vinco vici victum
My country I was there…………..when HISTORY written
