Hoggie

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Blessed in the right back slot over the years
With Deccie and Gunther allaying our fears
Your teeth cut with Glasheen and Wilton, I see
A footballing background of fine pedigree

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 World Student Games, went and met the Chinese
Then into our back four you slotted with ease
Tis hard to believe all these years have now passed
Still think of a young lad, whose shorts are too vast

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 First week of December, Two Thousand and Two
Not cheeringly festive, my feet turning blue
Drawn closing stages, game starting to peter
25 yard half volley, could not have been sweeter

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Come forward to August Two Thousand and Five,
Ricos league challenge in full overdrive
Shelbourne, who ‘til now, we could not upset
Joey cut back as you rifled the net

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 A new challenge came, much to all our dismay
A date with the Rapids down Mexico way
Academic standards they couldn’t sustain
Commerce Citys loss, Cork Citys gain.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Your choice of the studious route most commendable
On grass or off it, you’re always dependable
A diarist, a blogger, with Shakespeare explained
A player whose quality is surely not strain’d

Notes

A poem written for our right back Neal “Hoggie” Horgan who deservedly gets a testimonial this week after over a decade with the club. Our exiles & legends will play our first team this Saturday June 20th at 4.30pm in Turners Cross.
A framed copy of this was also presented to Neal at the launch night for this testimonial.
