How Teams Are Like Our Greatest Friends

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 if we should ever move apart
the way fans sometimes do
if we should miss be sure of this
our friendship will stay true

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 if we should ever drift away
along the path of time
let not the haze of long gone days
be to some pile resigned

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 in any land both near or far
for fifty years or more
the joy and pain has still remained
come win or lose or draw

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 the games we stood and sat right there
as seasons did unfurl
or roared and cheered to goals we shared
from far across the world

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 like school-pals home from holidays
or soldiers back from war
how teams are like our greatest friends
whatever lies in store

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 but one thing’s true for one and all
that link stays strong somehow
through ev’ry game come sun or rain
as great as then and now

Notes

always there season on season..be you nearby..ever-present or far away fan. .down the road..opposite the ground or in China or Mbabane – that link… that connection ever strong…why?
this on connecting again with an old London long lost s friend and fan not seen for 40 years…Google search and there you go..
i’ve seen grown men and women weep on going back to their childhood old friend that is their team and ground …perhaps alone or maybe bringing children or grand-children..perhaps after being apart or overseas for years..it happens every week somewhere on the planet i’ll be bound..!
