I Died a Thousand Deaths (Luton 3, Liverpool 5)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 We’d do better this year, maestro Rafa said, I’ll put out the first team.
We take the field at Luton with our glamour names, and sure enough,
seize the lead on a Stevie G rocket, . . . only began to look rocky again,
facing a swift Luton side. . . Sammi Hyppia starting to look uncertain
as at Bolton on New Year’s Day. They draw level, one-one; next we’re
down two-one; Cisse misses a penalty!; and they score on a penalty;
the Euro champs losing three goals to one! . . José Mourinho’s quoted
as saying the ‘Pool can defend but not score. . . Really, we can defend?
But Stevie powers us back–chestnuts rescued from the fire. The goals start to flow in, two from Sinama-Pongolle, a nice Xabi Alonso lob, then
Xabi scores a lovely sixty yarder from our half catching their goalie out.
Oh, keep the Glamour and Magic of the Cup! I died a thousand deaths!

Luton 3-5 Liverpool
“Liverpool were forced to pull off a comeback of almost Istanbul proportions to save their FA Cup lives after a wonderfully pulsating FA Cup tie at Kenilworth Road which had just about everything in the European champions’ 5-3 win.”
