I Felt Like George Best

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I played on the wing as a lad
For my schools and Coventry Boys
Played football almost every saturday
From the age of seven till seventeen.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 My role was to get past my defender
Try and put in lot’s of accurate crosses
When we scored from one of them
The feeling was second to none.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 To beat your marker felt great
But to cut inside and score was better
Then to get mobbed by my team-mates
In my young mind, I was George Best.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Still get a warm feeling and a glow
Thinking back to those childhood days
Winning lots of certificates and medals
Still got them in a drawer at home.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Stopped playing far too early
But I enjoyed it nevertheless
Just grateful to play the best sport
Memories of certain matches still with me today.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Get my enjoyment now from watching my team
Downcast though when they fail to win
But to me football is all about emotion
Without passion it’s completely soulless.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 But only real football fans understand
This ecstasy and agony we feel
When we play or watch our sport
This beautiful game of football.

Notes

This is about the theme of feelings, and how I felt when I played many years ago. I never played at Old Trafford, or Wembley, but when you’re young, you can pretend you are, and the feeling of scoring, is the same wherever you are !
