In those days it was always cold in November
Global warming? – We were still getting the last of the smogs in 1963!

So anyway, The Beatles wanted to hold our hand

Despite the cold, thinking the old ways were fading
Bob Dylan wanted to take us down, Chopper wanted to take George Best down

Christmas was just a month away, the cold foretold it
Do you remember?

Where you were on November 22nd 1963?
Yes it’s an old chestnut in the season of chestnuts, that black Friday

A Saturday of course, a match of course, Craven Cottage of course

Were you at a game? The river terraces, a steaming crowd
Trying to warm up the cold-hearted world we had suddenly been plunged into

Could make such a loud impression by being so quiet, so quiet

That dark Fulham Saturday v Sheffield United
Don’t remember the score, just knew that we’d lost something very important.
