I saw a crafty Striker

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I saw a crafty Striker
Do a blatant dive,
In a crowded goalmouth,
At twenty-five to five.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Half-blind Referee
Pointed to the Spot.
All the protests that he heard
Mattered not a jot.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Broadly grinned the Striker,
Feeling mighty chuffed,
Like he’d won at Poker
Through a blatant bluff.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Selfsame Striker
Said he’d take the kick.
Confident that leathern sphere
He in the Net would stick.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Striker teed the ball up,
Gave it a good punt.
Sure that he’d done enough
To put his Team in front.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 But, in goal, the Keeper,
Agile as a cat,
Made that crafty Striker
Look a proper prat.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Keeper tipped his effort
Over the Crossbar.
Keeper had the last laugh:
“Ha, ha, ha!”
