I Used To Have A…..Football Club!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I’m the only punter in the ground
The atmosphere is chilling
The emptiness as I look around
Holds dreams of childhood willing,
Cheering, shouting, singing
Sometimes shedding tears
I realize that for nearly my whole life
I’ve been paying homage here

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The day we won the …
The day that ….. played
The way we lost in extra time
To a lob by what is name

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Too many names to mention
Too many favourite songs
Though many shooting stars have gone
Only those we chose to worship
In our memories linger on

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 When a star from olden days gone by
Is applauded at half time
Do the have all punters of today
Look up from their cell phone catalogues and remember him
Like I look up from mine?

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 We used to watch great matches here
Two teams of eleven men without subs
“Are but geezer those are days long gone
When we were just a football club”

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Just a football club you say?
That much to me is crystal clear
But those thoughts of uncertain past days gone
Are still better than what’s here

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 “Let’s all dig in to get a win,
With all hands to the pump”

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 “I can’t do that I’ll scratch me bling
The Dow Jones has just jumped”

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 Am I the only punter in the game
Seeking solace down the pub
I used to know all first eleven’s names
I used to have a football club!

Notes

I’m getting a strange sort of I think I know whats going to happen before it happens about watching football at present.

The game seems to me to be very predictable at the moment and that is not a good thing, especially when you’ve followed a club like mine all your days whose motto used to be the only thing predictable about us is our un-predictability!

Make no mistake those days were much more exciting, going to watch the boys beat United at Old Trafford then the next match….. you just never knew what was going to happen!

Ah happy halcyon days and the uncertainty of it all, but most of all the excitement of it all!

peace
