I wandered lonely as a cloud

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A post, a goal ‘n magic skills;
Beside the pitch, beneath the stands,
Muttering and chanting were the fans.
Continuous are the stars that shine
And at half time a milky way,
Queues stretched in never-ending line
Along the turnstiles on Derby Day:
Ten pounds saw I at a glance,
To sing your heads off for the lads.
The waves beside us danced; but they
Were Mexican at ten to three:
A player could not but be highly paid,
In such a jocund Premier league:
I gazed – and gazed – but little thought
What wealth the show to them had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that screen on Sky
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
At Englands wonderous Football Skills.
