I want to go to Burnley

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 John Cooper Clarke
Has never been to Burnley
Instead swivelled his snake hips
and sauntered Salford’s streets
Snarling sneering superbly
But he hasn’t been to Burnley

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Where Owen Coyle out-thought Ferguson
My Fleet Street felt-tips scribbled the headlines
“United Turfed Out, Moor please!”
“Sweet Claret turns Ferguson’s Red Sour”
“Blake’s Heaven!”

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 And savoured the sounds
Of hacks choking on words
Forced back down their throats.

Notes

Everyone expects the Clarets to drop like stones back down to the Championship at the end of the season….we shall see.

The title is a nod to JCC’s poem ‘I dont want to go to Burnley’. John son yer don’t know what yer missin’!

“I was born a dingle
Born a Dingle
Walking along
Singing this song
Walking in a Dingle Wonderland!”
