I Was Once An Under Dog

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Let the sun shine down on one
Who deserves a chance
Not to be the missed out one
At the terms end dance

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Fragile girls and nervous boys
Rise up and be chosen
A young person with no confidence
Stands there as if frozen

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Do your best to make the team
You can’t always be best
But at least give it your best shot
Straight back, stick out your chest

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 You have beauty just like those who have it with good looks
The beauty that is found within is not in fashion books
Be a forward thinker different from the rest
Competing what its all about
Not being the best

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Speak your mind without a care
Contradict at will
Take from the well of knowledge
Drink and have your fill

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Why let shyness and bullies get you stuck
As if in a muddy bog
I write these heartfelt words to you
As I was once an under dog!!!

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 peace.

Notes

This poem is inspired by the excellent Janis Ian song At Seventeen.

Also it points out that we can not all be winners but its how you play the game that matters and getting the self confidence to actually partake in the game is paramount to everything surely?

As Parry Maguire very rightly points out there are kids out there reading this with all sorts of angst from the trials and tribulations of growing up in the material world of the have’s and the have nots, this is dedicated to them all.

be lucky.

peace.
