If I Were A Wise Man

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 If I were a Wise Man, I’d gift Him
a football, just so He could learn
a Game, could surprise Him and lift Him;
one more spark could ignite Him and burn,
and the Angels would line up with Shepherds
and the Keeper would save all the shots,
and the Devil, and serpents, and leopards:
they’d only just challenge in spots,
and the Star He’d become, it would guide us.
We’d recall, to the touch, how He played,
and the love that He gave would decide us,
and we’d toast Him and wish that He’d stayed.
If I could get close to the manger:
a sphere, black and white, for the Boy,
I would leave; just a ball from a stranger,
No instructions required to find Joy.
