If only they’d stop winning

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 What can we do if Longford keep on winning,
save try and get three points to stay in touch?
I’m sure the City Calling cats are grinning –
I doubt they’ve ever seen them score as much.
They’re playing like the Germans and the Dutch –
we’re flies caught in the tangled web they’re spinning.
Their odds seem to be thickening, as such,
while ours, alas, are resolutely thinning.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Their glut of goals is clearly underpinning
this run they’re on of eight wins on the trot.
Thank God they weren’t like this at the beginning
or they’d be out of sight now, like as not.
But we’re still there, in touch in second spot
(the form book surely must be ripe for binning?)
and, if they stumble, they could well be caught,
if only – yes, if only – they’d stop winning.
