IF (Parody for the World Cup)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 If you can keep the ball, when all about you
Are diving for penalty’s and blaming it on you
If you can trust yourself when all fans doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too
If you can keep on going and not be tired of running
Or ignore the chants, don’t deal in lies
Or be hated when you score a goal just stunning
And yet don’t look too good nor talk too wise

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 If you can dream and make your feet go faster
If you can think and put your heart into the game
If you can sit and get a lashing from your master
And treat your feet and ball as one the same
If you can bear to hear the boos from opposing fans
Twisted by hatred and idiot fools
Or watch the ref give away your scoring chance
And walk away when the other team break the rules

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 If you can make one corner count towards your winnings
And risk it on a penalty in extra time
And lose, but the group stage’s the beginning
And never breathe a concern about your climb
If you can force your legs and nerve and sinew
To serve your team, long after you’ve scored
And so hold on when there is nothing left in you
Except the will to score another, for applaud

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 If you can square up to your marked man and keep your virtue
Or walk down your tunnel, heart beating fast, ready to go
If neither their defenders or any opposition can hurt you
If all men count on you until that whistle blow
If you can fill the nail biting 90 minute
With Two halves worth of distance run
Yours is the Glory and everything init
And which is more, we’ll win the World Cup, my son!
