the headline’s quite alarming
our current health’s to blame

and now they stand alone
no red meat for the players
they’re in another zone
it’s fine for most of eco Stroud
with hippy pedigree
but few of those are footie fans
apart from maybe me?

that isn’t far away
except of course in winter
on some cold bare-tree’d day
they’re purer than the school menu
endorsed with Jamie’s style
their owner he’s a vegan
and has been quite a while

but home games might be iffy
imagine burger touts outslde
it could get slightly whiffy?
what next the faithful wonder
with smoking too long gone
who hope they’re still allowed to cheer
and also sing along

Newcastle and West Ham
but this could turn quite ‘veggie’
although a worthy plan
for one who is is a vegan too
the news is great to see
but still I wonder over time
what come-backs there will be?

FOOTBALL CLUB BANS SAUSAGES & BURGERS!

A UK football club is banning the sale of burgers and sausages to fans at its home games.

The move was made by Forest Green Rovers football club, in Gloucestershire. Club owner Dale Vince is a vegan and also runs Ecotricity, a green electricity company. Blue Square Bet Premier club first introduced the ban for players a few weeks ago however, the policy has now extended across the entire stadium. The club will continue to serve free-range poultry and fish sourced from sustainable stocks.

Tom Williams, communications director for the club, said that after discussions with Mr Vince regarding nutritional advice, a conclusion was drawn that the team would no longer be fed red meat in order to sustain their health and performance. He added that the policy would be extended to the stadium, in order to step closer to establishing the organisation as a “green” organisation.

He continued to say that it was appreciated that some people will miss burgers and sausages, however, the catering teams are working on a range of alternative products which will prove both interesting and tasty. He added that the decision was obviously a break in tradition but hoped that many would see it as a forward step and not a backward one.
