unmoved by form success defeat
if you can give each game your all
and never ever kick a ball
if you can drink from glass or beaker
and never think about Ulrika
to make this country great again
while still write haiku lines of Zen
if you can rise above the crowd
to whisper truth or scream out load
about the price of going to see
such utter mediocrity
if you can let your ego go
like Keane and others have we know
see heaven in a flock of fans
and put up with that England band
who play Dam-Busters all night long
but drum the tune completely wrong
if you can see beyond one team
expand your visionary dream
to see this football world as one
from Zimbabwe to Cheltenham
if you can do this regu’ly
a football poet you can be
