Il y a une Petite Rue

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 In the city of Paris, there lies a small street
Just around from the Gare du Nord station,
Where a circular plaque attracts pilgrims to meet
To pay homage to its reputation.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 For back in the sixties, when tactics were all,
And street football was at its pinnacle,
Twonne Street pioneered direct use of the ball,
Astounding the tactically cynical.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Not here was the ball knocked with caution around,
Its premise was quite unselective.
And though Ramsey and Johnny Giles caustically frowned,
It proved to be very effective.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The goalie would boot the ball out of his hand,
To his forwards, all psyched up and goaded,
And woe betide half-backs who’d let the ball land –
And thus Rue Twonne football exploded.
