I’m Keeping the Route Map in the Glove Compartment for now

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 One swallow doesn’t make a Summer,
but yesterday’s win is grounds for cautious optimism;
the green shoots of recovery may
just be starting to peek through the
mottled, hallowed turf of the County Ground;
we may just cling on to our League One status
if we produce more gutsy displays like this.
No need to get the route map out
for dreary away days at North West outposts
like Stockport, Rochdale and Bury?
Or to pore over directions to sunnier climes:
the English riviera that is Torquay.
Memories of Blundell Park live long
on the tongue and the tastebuds:
thoughts of another whale-size
piece of cod to go with the annual
defeat at the hands of the Mariners,
but maybe not for another year?
How to get to Whaddon Road,
may be put on hold along with
trips to the Memorial Ground
and the three sided Kassam Stadium.
Visiting new grounds is always nice:
( Moss Rose, York Street, Sincil Bank ),
but I’d prefer to stick with what I know:
well thumbed routes to familiar venues:
Ashton Gate, Griffin Park, Fitness First
so I’m keeping the map in the glove
compartment just for now.

Notes

Swindon’s 4-2 success against Bournemouth at the County Ground yesterday has given us all hope that we may, just may preserve our League One status .
