I’m Still Here

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Hold on to my dreams
For I’m losing my grip.
I need strong hands
To keep my dreams alive,
And mine are failing.
I need your hands
I need your belief
My dreams need support,
My dreams need belief.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 My legs no longer work,
My body also.
My ears can hear
My eyes can see
My mind works fully.
I’m held prisoner
In my own body.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 I remember my days on the terraces
Shouting
Cheering
Booing with the rest
The thrills of the Cup
And Wembley.
The hot days and cold beers in August
The cold feet and hot pies in January.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 I can no longer cheer my team
I can no longer go to a game
I can watch on television,
But no longer respond.
The players’ reactions
Contrast my inaction.
Their abilities
Contrast my own disability.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Let them play on without me

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 I miss the noise
I miss the friendship
I miss the game.
I ramble, but no-one can hear me
Did we win?

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 A prisoner,
I hear
I see
I know
I cannot respond
I cannot let you know.
I need
To know
That my dreams are held
Safely within you.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Cover my face
Release me
