Imagine

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 In the dead of night at Anfield
Main Stand, familiar red seat
He is deafened by the silence
Unsettled by the stillness
The corner flags gently flutter

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 In this place, he has been so happy …
Eyes close to make a picture
Of those treasured days gone by;
His first time at the old stadium
Under sparkling diamond ‘lights

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Men on the terraces surge forward
Players parade silver before them
Beating United and Europe’s best
Not a feeling like it in the world
Vividly, he could see it all

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Yet there was sadness too …
Games attended with his father
Memorable, but all too few
The pair, supporters together
As the great Bobby Moore defends

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Sees Crazy Horse galloping again
Our ninety-six, scarves held high
Friendly ghosts of Bill, Bob and Joe
Then those who chose never to leave
This sacred place, home for evermore

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Eyes open, he takes magic moments
From the football jukebox in his mind
Then replays them on the pitch below
Thinks of friends who were with him
And the celebrations that followed

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 His sons, who will carry the torch
Those who will follow and walk on
And wonders if, in years to come
They would recall times with him
The corner flags gently flutter
