In other years

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 In other years, the League came first.
We’d have the clichés well-rehearsed,
as time and time again, we said
the League was where we earned our bread,
so extra effort was coerced.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 A long Cup run could well be cursed –
our title dreams might end up burst
if we strove for the Cup instead.
In other years…

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 But now ambition’s been reversed.
Who cares how points will be dispersed?
The lure of silver turns our head –
the Cup adorned with ribbons red!
We never were so Cup-immersed
in other years.

Notes

Normally we trot out the old cliche about the league being our bread and butter and any Cup success a bonus. This year however, the league is petering out into nothingness but we have a Cup semi-final away to the Jesters to look forward to.
