Inspiration (albeit poppycock)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I started out penning puns, then diverged
I wracked my brain for resonant rhythm and rhyme
I yomped for miles in search of monster meter
Lummoxed down country lanes, lamenting lonely clouds unloading
I muscled my way into hedgerows, looking not for shrews, but for my muse
I dangled daffodils in every direction, looking for words worth a thousand pictures –
All to no avail

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 I found salvation in the form of a football field

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 It sated the soul, brought a kinda karma …
But no masterpiece

Notes

Hardly a memorable poem.

But what was memorable was the song playing in the background as I composed it – The Stranglers version of Walk on By – what a classic – brought back memories – unfortunately I thought I was 18 all over again – and ran around like a loon at our resurrected weekly 5-a-side – I was puffed out of course within minutes!

Thanks to Tom Dunne (ex frontman of Something Happens, now nighttime DJ – and fast filling the shoes of the late and dear John Peel) for playing the song.

And despite the lack of puff, it was great to be back in the company of friends – old and new.

Mind you, after 10 years of wednesday nights, it feels like breaking the habit of a lifetime following our switch to tuesday nights!
