Inspired By A Wonderful Sony Ad.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Watching, revived dormant memories
Of a fraught match we’d play on the streets
When we dreamed we were Puskas, Lev Yashin or Pele
The future controlled by our feet .

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Black or white plimsolls, our Wemberley
Had a goal that backed on to The Thames
Not a kid owned a shirt we were two frantic teams
In them ace by-gone games with our friends.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 We’d turn up in all shapes and sizes
Why. We’d even let nippers join games
Some kids came to play whose pure skill would surprise us
So we’d envy their minutes of fame

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 There was no lush green grass on our pitches
And trainers? Wore track-suits and smoked
Yet our matches were rife with the riches
That the wanting to win could provoke.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 We’d brylcreem our barnets to glisten
Like a tribute to foot-balling stars
If Kenneth Wostenholme spoke then we listen
He was up there with Yuri Gagarin.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Who cares if you ain’t got the right kit?
When you play on the streets it’s for laughs
As we nurtured the wonder called friendship
Till “Oi you get indoors in the bath”

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 “But ma I’m Alfredo Di-Stefano
Him what’s playing for Real Madrid”?
“No you ain’t, yer a cheeky little so an so
Whose scuffed shoes are on tick for six quid!”?

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 The missed kicks and slip-ups, the sly digs and trip ups
As you seemed through to then hit the post
Are all leading up to Brazil winning a World Cup
Whilst scoring one of the greatest team goals?

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 When imagination runs riot it can inspire young lives
To be anything they desire to be
The above composition was inspired by a beautiful vision
Of a wonderful Sony ad I’ve just seen on TV!

Notes

This wonderful Sony ad has quite poignant memories for me as being
surely what the beautiful game is supposed to all about, just simply getting a hold of a ball and just getting on with the wonder of playing a game… anytime, anywhere with and anyone?

Peace.

Kev.
