Irwell Springs Fc

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Football history tells its tales
Of childhoods hope and dreams
And there the same in black and white
The boys of Irwell Springs

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Leather Casey’s caked like mud pies
Knitted shirts that scratched and scratched
A standing terrace cheering on
A love for football can’t be matched

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The boys that shine out from the photo
Titherington Lord Hunt Taylor Coupe
Banham Banham Ratcliffe Whittaker
Bold Thomas Thompson mayor of Bacup

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Farewell the sands of time that fastened
Farewell to lovers whence we stole
A willin’ heart and willin’ lips
We cannot leave but we must go

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The best of years we gave, and freely
The money spent and rarely wise
But there within each heart it trembles
The roar goes up ‘neath blood red skies

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 There’s none so loved as this the passion
Borne in each soul held dearly there
Yea when was asked so freely given
The Irwell Springs Fc so fair

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Farewell the days of youth oh slender
Fragments held by silver threads
The kings that brought us honour, glory
The crown of victory upon each head

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 But now the time for dreaming over
The Kings all turned to silent sleep
Their swords disguised as football boots
That pierced defences quietly sheathed

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 All peaceful now but ne’er forgotten
The scent of glory but remains
For sure affection never wither
Irwell Springs Fc the same

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Our time is measured counted finely
What riches given must be returned
But lo! Behind the gates of heaven
Irwell Springs Fc forever there…
