It Was Only a Game

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Football turned to business
Money-making, mickey-taking
richness from the poor
Banter turned to slander
Mutinous boos and abuse
aimed low and personal
Menace from the terraces
demanding entertainment
Disdain flooded tabloid pages
Rotten wooden stands changed hands
Millionaires placed us on cheap seats
at a price
to witness the loss of our lifes game
It’s not the same

Notes

Some footballers now only play for the money, content to train and sit on the bench, refusing offers of loan spells to gain experience.

Then there’s the rest of us, hoping to be picked, just once, even to be the mascot…

Woe, woe… hang on a minute, here at Norwich City we have what is known as a Blank Saturday (you sad losers) coming up so hurrrah! We can enjoy the Africa Cup and 4th round FA Cup as a neutral.
Yeah!
