It Was Sixty Years Ago Today That The Russians Taught The Blues To Play

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I used to be a barrer boy
On me bow and arrow*
My guvnor who was an eighteen carat gent
Should have gone to Harrow

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Being that much older than me
A lovely kinda bloke
He told an awesome story
Of when the Russians came to Smoke

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 1945 it was just after the war
Rationing was still in place
London itself was in a mess
Things were insecure

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The tale was told of Bobrov awesome in attack
Then of Semichastny the guvnor at the back
The keeper Tiger Khomich was who they came to see
These were all members of the team who played Chelsea

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 It is said a 100,000 stood and watched the game
Most of them got in for free perhaps that’s why they came
The pictures show a shed without it’s sacred roof
Though taken from the side I’m not sure thats the truth

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Moscow Dynamo took to the field and gave the Blue Boys flowers
The only present from the Russians they got for the next one and a half hours
As the game kicked off all the fans were sat around the pitch
All the toffs from Chelsea must have thought that was a bit rich!

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 The game was fast and furious as Dynamo took shots at goal
Bobrov was magnificent with fantastic ball control
The Blue Boys were static as Dynamo chopped and changed
All the plans that Chelsea had made were soon shot down in flames

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 As sometimes happens against the run of play
The Blue Boys scored two goals, though dodgy some would say
It looked as if the goose was cooked for the Russian team away
A pen was missed Dynamo fans hissed as half time saved the day

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 At last Dynamo scored not once but twice ever so quick
The speed with which the game was played was fabulous and slick
Chelsea took the lead again and thought the spoils were theirs
But Dynamo were fit and quick and oh so full of flare

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Blue boys now were tiring, full backs were perspiring
As Dynamo equalised with engines still a firing
With end in sight the Chelses plight was one of sheer despair
As Dynamo danced to and fro through foggy London air

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 Bobrov took a final bow as his shot hit the post
Blue boys by now were praying to father, son and holy ghost
The spoils were shared as those stood there
Had witnessed such a sight
Would they ever forget passovotchka and Moscow Dynamite!!!

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 peace.

Notes

* bow and arrow, cockney slang for barrow.

Tuesday 13 November 1945

When I was a mere slip of a boy on me bow and arrow! My guvnor told me that he was one of the fans who queued only to be told that it was a sell out. So all the poor punters got in to the ground any way they could and a lot of them ended up sitting on the roof of the stand and sitting on the touchline! How cool was that?

peace.

kev.
