It’s That Ol’ Teletext Called Ceefax!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 now you don’t get distracted on Ceefax
you just stare at those fixtures for hours
it’s not quite as trying as watching paint drying
or the slow motion growing of flowers

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 you can gaze at that old black rectangle
with its blue and white text on the screen
there’s no pundits on hand with their comments so bland
just up-dates from each game and team

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 and there’s nothing like watching the nil-nils
it’s great if you’re sleepy or bored
you can think of your heroes whilst gazing at zeroes
that flash up the goals as they’re scored

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 now it’s Teletext only to some folk
it’s been going since ’74
but with texts and the net it’s a pretty safe bet
that it’s future is numbered for sure

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 like Pink’uns and Green’uns and classified mags
that vanished and died on the way
we’ve got digital options and loads of new buttons
to press any time of the day

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 no you don’t get distracted on Ceefax
you just stay there and pray there like mad
and it’s never the same as a really live game
but the day that it’s gone I’ll be sad

Notes

Great article in the current WSC (When Saturday Comes) ….
and whether you call it Teletext or Ceefax,it looks like being the next quaint old victim of progress..and the digital revolution..
remember when you thought you were cool because you knew how to programme a VHS video to record off the tele while you were out?
