1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 James Alexander Gordon

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 We all know the name
Voice instantly recognised
We don’t know the man
But he’s part of our lives

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Classified football results
Since nineteen seventy four
He reads the first half of the fixture
From that you can guess the score

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 He has that famous inflection
In his nectared vocal tone
There’s no-one else quite like him
So – for JAG – I wrote this poem

James Alexander Gordon RIP (10 February 1936 – 18 August 2014)

Editor Note (first published here January 2009)

James Alexander Gordon was born in 1936. His distinctive style gives interest and drama to what would otherwise be a boring list. He contracted polio as a child which left him with a speech impediment though you would never guess that now. His determination and ability means that he has achieved a long and successful career, his voice proving a great asset. An unsung hero of our game. Hip Hip! S B Ingle
