3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 When John Henry was a baby, sittin’ on his Daddy’s knee,
he held out a tiny red football, said
“Soccer’s goin’ to be the death of me, Lordy, lord,
soccer’s goin’ to be the death of me.”

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 John Henry told his Captain, “A man ain’t nothin’ but a man,
before I let that Prem. League beat me down
I will die with my dollars in my hands,
yes I will, die with my dollars in my hands.”

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 John Henry asked Barca’s Chairman, “Now, can we hear you sing?”
“We’ve got our Rebel 12, plans are confirmed,
we’ll soon see the crowds flock in —
and then you’ll hear those cash tills ring!”

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 John Henry took that Super League track with those 12 Euro clubs by his side,

Walking Alone! — Hung out to dry!
Left in the dark — Hung out to dry…

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 John Henry tried to climb a mountain,
but the mountain was too high,
“Without the fans, it was not a viable plan,
All I can do is apologize —
You can see, I have tears in my eyes.”

Notes

Not knowing the plans of owner , John Henry, to make Liverpool part of the European Super League, Jurgen Klopp and the team were subject to lots of unpleasantness from certain quarters of the media and from fans and the Leeds club on match day. Henry appears to be only concerned with making money and his apologies to Liverpool fans after the failed breakaway seemed trite and insincere… The folk song about the “steel driving man” John Henry, offered an obvious form for this poem… and the opportunity to contrast the self-centred behaviour of the Liverpool owner with a real folk hero…
