1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Did yer kin John Peel
With his humane feel
With his love for all things Red
He played all kindsa music, la
That for days stayed in yer head

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 At Shrewsbury school, he acted cool
In quadrant, dorm and vestry
But all of that stuff, quickly disappeared
When he first heard Elvis Presley

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 A Kopite, till the day it all,
Came to a sad end
Like a forty five, when the needle lifts.
His name goes in fame

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 He toured America with the Beatles
Named his kids after sacred Reds
Played anything and everything
Tunisian folk to X Ray Spex

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 As the Beeb made changes to its ranks
And so called DeeJays got the chop
He was the only head with any cred
Who outstayed all that lot

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 As loads of fans of the John Peel show
Sent in flyers for their bands
He plugged em on air without a care
Or money changing hands

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Endless tapes and cd’s
Were sent in to the show
By frustrated members of unknown bands
Whom John would get to know

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 The list of artists, whom he helped on rise
To dizzy heights of fame
Is endless in its complexity
There is no need for names

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 At ten-o-clock on Radio One
Each night whilst we worked late
John Peel and his box of discs,
Such a change from tunes mundane

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Its said he took a record box eveywhere
With his 140 all time faves
Will we ever hear such a gent again
And the earhole pleasure, that he gave?

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 So cheers John mate, as at Heavens Gate
Your show is still the one
As Teenage Kicks and Dalgliesh flicks
Will forever remind us, of a kindly Mersey son!

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 Did yer kin John Peel
With his humane feel
With his love for all things Red
