Jose & The Hand Jive (Down To You)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 sitting in the press box keeping it calm
I got Fulham fans beside me now keeping me warm
but here at the Bridge on another massive day
i’m just learning that hand-jive the Jose way

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Makaton or sign language elegant smoothe
one man’s fingers show another man’s moves
wavey ones praying ones – and zig zaggy style
I can’t stop watching our Jose all the while

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 and what’s he saying now written in his hands?
only our captain and team-mates understand
magical movements all buried in a code
but just what he’s telling them we’ll never ever know

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 i’m tryin’ to stay focused but the man’s right here
prowling right in front of me waving everywhere
long coat and swarthy rugged and lean
George Clooney stare kinda gentle yet mean

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 sitting in the press box trying to stay cool
waiting for the championship and Liverpool
relegation frustration long gone tears
for these are the day that we dreamed of for years

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 these are the days and we’ve waited so long
fifty years of trying from Roy down to John
consistency quality shining on through
days like this and it’s all down to you.

Notes

April 23rd 2005 .. 50th Anniversary of winning the league and almost there again…Chelsea 3 Fulham 1 …..another blue blue day..and so close now..I wrote this for Jose on the train home after sitting right behind him and being mesmerised by his wonderful expressions and genuinely Latin and mythical gestures…what do they mean though? …but whatever it is you say to them with your hands Jose.it defintely works and we thank you…(give us a wave at the Charlton game ) .Thanksso much to Lee and Pippa so much for sorting this special visit. The last time I sat in the press box, was in the eighties when I was writing for the Gazette paper in Bristol and we covered a Chelsea v Bristol Rovers evening game (2nd Div days)..They put me up in Row Z (restricted view) of the top tier East Stand …and we won and stuff …but it was flipping freezing.. halcyon days..sweaters for long-johns!
