Justice for Michael

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 May 25th 2005
For Liverpool fans the time of their lives
Champions League final a sight to behold
Win number five the boys struck gold

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 All reds fans around the world
Sang their hearts out while banners swirled
In every corner far and wide
They sang their heroes names with pride

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 For one young fan the joy turned sour
Arrested by police at an ungodly hour
Charged with a sick and violent crime
Protesting his innocence a waste of time

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The weeks flew by his head in a spin
Couldn’t understand what was happening to him
Bulgarian justice reduced him to tears
For an innocent boy got fifteen years

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Reduced to ten years on appeal
Normally a great result you’d feel
Not if you’d done nothing wrong
Every day in prison another day too long

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Serving his time with dignity
Mum and dad fighting to have him free
Home at last though still inside
His massive support spreads far and wide

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 When finally released what can he say
About the years they have taken away
No uni degree no cap and gown
Because this government let him down

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 And so they fight on his mum and dad
Fight for the justice he’s never had
There’ll be no justice till Jack Straw yields
And releases INNOCENT MICHAEL SHIELDS

Notes

Dedicated to innocent Michael and his lovely family. Justice will be done one day

Editor’s note:

Michael was freed in September 2009 :

Justice Secretary Jack Straw issued a royal pardon, saying that Mr Shields was “morally and technically innocent”.

Mr Shields’ parents, Michael Snr and Maria, were said to be “ecstatic”.
