Kicking My Dreams Around Childhood

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 All those years of what will be
And what really came to pass
The times I knew just really knew
My chance had come at last

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The winning goals I dreamed I’d score
The foot the slipper wore
The key that opened opportunity
My name upon its door

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 From cut out stars on bedroom walls
The moves I copied close
The blinding runs across the park
The goals that hit the post

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Witnessed by the silent trees
The broken glass I dodged
It didnt matter much to me
That no one stopped to watch

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Shin pads broken like the dreams
Old laces left in mud
And like my hopes all cut and bruised
And parcelled up in blood

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 What happened to the bloom of youth
The promise of the vine
Did someone shake the bottle turning
Water back from wine

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Perhaps its life itself that draws
The lotteries we choose
Then juggles like a politician
In avoidance of the truth

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Oh candid favours once to taste
Once more the dreams I dreamed
Pull on the shirt lace up the boots
This weary life to leave

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 A child again a child again
We all must one day be
Our hearts find home a football pitch
And the grass so very green.

Notes

Called in at Anfield yesterday, Q’s a mile long (only wanted a couple of magazines) so gave up and decided to have a wander round the Anfield roads where me family are from; me Nan (Anfield born and bred) grew up a spit from the ground and married a season ticket holding Blue Nose! the shame of it:) family all long gone now like the old terrace houses but sometimes in the echoes of childhood voices call back to you just to remind you who you are, where you come from, and where you belong 😉
