Kilkenny Ireland

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Kilkenny Ireland, March 30th,
My dear and loving son John,
I’m sorry to tell you the very sad news
That our chance of promotion has gone.
We’re now propping up the entire division,
Dundalk are now well out of sight,
It doesn’t take someone with foresight or vision
To know we’ll not make the top flight.
Ironic the team though played decent in patches,
Although they had only ten men.
Oh why don’t you come down to more away matches?
We’d sure love to see you again.

My dear and loving son John,
I’m sorry to tell you the very sad news
That your lucky old Shels scarf is gone.
I know that you swore it was lucky to wear it,
You’ve worn that thing since Harolds Cross,
But some of the other lads started to tear it
And called it an old albatross.
‘Tis funny the anger bad fortune unlatches,
The flames could be seen cross the glen,
Oh why don’t you come down to more away matches?
We’d sure love to see you again.

My dear and loving son John,
I’m sorry to tell you the very sad news
That your dear old mother has gone.
She’d followed the boys in red hither and thither
Through times both ecstatic and grim,
But she met a young man with a hurl and a sliothar,
And now she has moved in with him.
But love is an itch that the younger man scratches,
This cock doesn’t need an old hen,
Oh why don’t you come down to more away matches?
We’d sure love to see you again.

Notes
