At first I didn’t recognise the feeling,
The little surge that mounted in my breast.
I looked around and gazed up at the ceiling,
Feeling quite bewildered and distressed.

There it came again! A tiny shiver,
Scurrying with vigour down my back,
Shooting through my stomach to my liver,
In a seeming unprovoked attack.

I reached up for the Medical Directory,
Purchased at a recent jumble sale
Held in the large garden of the rectory
(But that is a completely different tale.)

I checked the index with some apprehension,
Wondering what the tremors signified.
Maybe I’d a problem with retention?
Maybe I was packing up inside?

At last I found a reason for this feeling,
These shivers of excitement tinged with pain,
This strange sensation that came o’er me stealing –
The Eircom League was starting up again.
