With the clock slowly turning behind the chalkboard
And you skip past the verses that tell you loudly

So you ask if the words that you wrote can be read
But the teacher ignores you and then says instead
That the national curriculum will always decree
A Liverpool football poet’s not something to be

So you turn from the days where your mind starts to prey
And listen instead to the dreams come your way
As you follow Dalglish and leave those who believe
A Liverpool football poet’s not something to be

You go the games and you stand on The Kop
You cheer for the reds and you sing all the songs
And you promise yourself as you walk back down the street
A Liverpool football poet is what you will be
