Liverpool: Two Teams, One City

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 You had your Liver Birds
We had Canaries
You had The Beatles, Gerry & the Pacemakers
The whole music scene in fact
Including Cilla Black
We had little transistor radios with a single earpiece
To eavesdrop on your glorious echos

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 You had two Cathedrals
Well we could match that
You had the best comedians
We had the Singing Postman, he made us smile
You had two football teams
The Mighty Reds and The Toffees
We had Norwich City

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 You had the quick wit, the survival instinct
Sense of belonging
Pride in your place
I totally got that

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Then you had Hillsborough, Heysel
The shooting of Rhys Jones
on his way home from football training
I cried with your city
Felt near though miles away
When you were at Hillsborough
We were at Villa Park playing Everton

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 It would have been us if the draw had been different that day
Ninety six innocent men, women and children died that day
The authorities, the establishment, lied that day

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Your dignity, forbearance and remembrance will never die

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Fighting for justice
I admire your city
Its people as one

Notes

I will always remember.
