Lord Attenborough CBE, RIP

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Dear Dickie
Dear, dear, Dickie
You’ll be sadly missed darling
Our quintessential luvvie
Who put on the best grease-painted face
Of British film and cinematography

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 But personally, it’s sport and geography
That binds us –
As a Richmond boy
I’d pass your house every morning
My mammy and I, crossing the Green
Heading down to the Thames
When we went to feed the ducks

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 You were magnificent as an auteur
Parading the red carpet in your tux
For Gandhi, Jurassic Park
Cry Freedom, Brighton Rock
Miracle on 34th Street:
Beguiling as Santa, you made us sigh
But what brings a tear to my eye
Is your position of esteem
As the figurehead for our team
For our shared love
Where we’ll miss your esprit
Here at
Chelsea FC

Notes

Lord Attenborough CBE 1923 – 2014

Actor, Director, Producer

More importantly
Life President of Chelsea FC

Most importantly
A beloved family man, loved by all

My favourite quote from him:

In 2008 Lord A became Life President.
On being handed a commemorative plate to mark the occasion, he said:

‘I’ll sweep the Oscars off the mantelpiece and put this plate right on top now. It means as much to me as any award or honour I have been given in the past.’
He meant it – he adored Chelsea FC.
