Lost – for Phil O’Donnell

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 We won, we lost
That’s all it comes down to
Mistakes cost us, they bossed us
Couldn’t even win the toss
Utter dross

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Whether we won or lost
It doesn’t matter today
Team colours merge to one
Rivalry fades away
As we remember one who played the game
and died
with fans still chanting his name

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Tomorrow we’ll be moaning and cursing our luck
That’s just how we football fans are
We lose, and it hurts us
It means everything to say ‘we won’
But, life is more important than football
And we mourn one of its sons

Notes

There will be universal shock and sadness at the sudden death of Phil O’Donnell of Motherwell, during a game. His family, friends and team mates are in my thoughts. May the memory of good times get you through.
