Temples thumping like a drum
Stomach like a hot wash cycle
Your watch winning the slow bicycle race
I know how you felt at half time
Norwich are often three nil down by then
Defeated, knowing it
Already planning to go home
To wrap your flag in a black bin liner
Unread programme, an unwanted reminder
Left under your seat
I know how you felt at full time
Crying because you’d lost, then won
Accepted the worst, and when
the unbelievable happened –
it was true –
you couldn’t believe it
and your eyes were still full of tears
But your face was laughing
Your whole body shaking
Everywhere red; written in fantasy pages
It just didn’t add up
You felt the worst and best in three hours
The Cup had taken a wrong turning
Now it’s safely home and back for good
