Manchester United 1 Chelsea 3: The Golden Mean

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 So here I sit in Whittington House,
Alfred Place, Holborn, WC1,
Following in Dick’s footsteps straight from Stroud,
Speeding along the steeled permanent way,
To where the streets are all paved with gold,
And where anyone can be a manager,
Or a croupier in a football club casino.
Meanwhile the seats empty long before the end,
King Midas claims the game and smiles,
And the game loses its integrity and soul.

Notes

There’s something slightly squalid, to my mind, about Manchester United’s proposed plans for a casino; also, apparently, 3 million of the workforce described as “managers” these days.
