Mighty Leeds Might Not

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 They’ve played with broken noses
dislocated shoulders, severed contracts
and cuts in pay

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 They played on through snapped -laces
-achilles, and -extra marital affairs
– ruthless paparazzi

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 They survived fractured relationships
in dressing rooms, fractious, fracas
biting criticism

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 They pulled through crushing defeat
fans demos, manager getting the chop
training ground bust-ups

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 They had seasons fragmented by injury
rupture not rapture, shattered dreams
Cup runs barely toddled

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 They smashed all expectations
Plummeting depths avoided by divers
Fallen divas

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Red tape was no adhesive
They split, deserted and fled
Leaving a ghost of a chance

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 – but even the ghost is dead

Notes

Leeds United fans must be gutted; their team is now facing the Mother of all Battles. Thinking of players like Billy Bremner, Johnny Giles, Mick Jones : it seems unbelievable that money and men have all but destroyed this once great club. Yet Leeds fans have to hang on somehow; born with one heart, and one club.
