Mindless Madness

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 it has to stop it has to end
it has no place on Earth
we have to change and rearrange
if life and football have worth
these problems don’t cease the streets
they’re right across the game
this mindless madness has to cease…
these FICTIONAL FOOTBALL CLUB NAMES

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 there’s Robin Hood* in Surinam
there’s FC Santa Claus in Finland
there’s shiny Ajax in Holland of course
and in old fashioned bathrooms in England
in Serie A there’s Atalanta
from a bear on a mountain top**
with Sportivo Ben Hur in Argentina
please tell me this madness will stop?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 there’s Joe Public FC in Trinidad
and a team called A Touch Of Frost
there’s Kaizer Chiefs and Grand Theft Auto
who have borrowed and stolen and lost..
there’s even a club with a much stronger slant
yes it’s Hercules Alicante
who’ve taken their name from some Greek demi-God
who was often just clothed in his panties

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 the Heart of Midlothian lifted their name
from a novel by Sir Walter Scott
and Atletico Atlas like the bloke with the world
on his shoulder – I do love a lot..
if you think of a few more do tell us
the Guardian gave me all these
it certainly beats all the mindlessness currently
happening out on our streets.

With the sadness, fear and madness around right I felt some light relief was necessary. No offence intended. May the violence and looting stop now .Peace.

*Full name Sporting Veringen Robinhood:

** Serie A’s Atalanta are allegedly named after a character in Greek mythology who was (so they say?) suckled by a bear having been left to die on a mountain-top by her *(supposedly) disgruntled father, King Iasus, who’d been hoping for a son… (apparently).
