Blinding West Ham United with brightness
And lighted up the crowded stadium.
Cauthamoc Blanco, a goal and an assist,
Three goals to two to the MLS — the night was his.
Joy was written on his triumphant face,
Memory, quick to melt in his mind
But the result, forever, imprinted in his life.
Each winning player waved to Toronto after the final whistle blown;
Their navy blue jerseys glistened like new crystals
While the sky blue ones of the losers, quick to be tarnished.
This was the night that elevated soccer in America to another level.
