Golden glory, a bygone story –
Tales from Wolverhampton
Of Wright, Williams, Wilshaw:
Of Murray, Mullen, Mason.
These men of Molineux made
Magical memories on winter Saturdays.

Cullis – the leader, a driven soul
Who forged a team in his image –
Fast to the wings, long to the forwards
And Goals, Goals, Goals.
Magyars, Russians – even regal Madrid
Were humbled on misty floodlit nights.

Best in England, ‘Champs of the World’
They were called. A dynasty rolled on,
In classic old gold and black.
Three titles, two cups, 100 goals
In four straight years – some thought
It would never end…but it did.

Maestro Stanley was sacked –
How could they dismiss a legend ?
Dark days, but out of darkness new hope.
Bailey, Waggy, Peter Knowles –
A genuine genius who flourished,
Though all too briefly.

Dougan came, saw and conquered –
North Bank idol; man of the people,
A deadly combo with hot shot ‘J.R.’
Tearing defences apart, as in halcyon days
At the famous old ground.
And still, the ‘Happy Wanderer’ played on..,.
